Appliance Care Tip
One of the simplest ways to extend the life of your appliances is to perform routine cleaning and inspections. We recommend taking a few minutes each month to do the following:
- Clean refrigerator condenser coils at least twice a year. Dust buildup forces the compressor to work harder, which raises your energy bill and shortens the fridge’s life. Use a vacuum hose or a long brush to gently remove the dust.
- Check and clean dryer vents and lint traps to improve drying performance. A clogged vent is a major fire hazard and the number one cause of dryer inefficiency.
- Inspect washer hoses and filters for debris or wear to prevent leaks. Check the rubber hoses behind the unit for any cracks, bulges, or brittleness, as a burst hose is a leading cause of home water damage. It is also important to clear the small mesh inlet filters where the hoses connect to the machine, as sediment buildup here can slow water flow and stress the valve.
- Clean dishwasher filters to ensure proper draining and cleaning results. Most modern dishwashers have a manual filter located at the bottom of the tub that traps food particles and grease. If this isn’t rinsed out regularly, it can lead to bad odors, poor drainage, and dishes coming out with grit still on them.
Regular maintenance helps prevent unexpected breakdowns, lowers repair costs, and keeps your appliances operating as designed. A small amount of attention now can save a major repair later.
